Brandywine River Museum of Art welcomes young people to explore art

A series of programs designed to excite children about art will take place at the Brandywine River Museum of Art in Chadds Ford this summer. 

Advanced Explorers Art Class: "Making It Real" 
For ages 9 and older
June 22 to 26, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
Experiment with traditional approaches and try new techniques while learning about artists' methods for making objects look realistic. This week-long program for ages 9 and older will use the museum's collections and surrounding landscape to inspire young artists as they express themselves with varied media. Teaching artist Jen Polillo leads classes for children and adults throughout the region. Supplies are included. Cost is $100 per child; $75 for Brandywine members. Museum Explorers
For ages 3 to 10
Thursdays, July 2 through 30, two sessions each day
Session A: 10 a.m. Session B: 11 a.m.
Dynamic art programs designed to excite children about art will take place at the museum this summer. Participate in one or all five of these workshops designed for children ages 3 to 10, accompanied by an adult. Each program includes a thematic, interactive guided tour followed by a creative art project. Workshops are free for members and included in museum admission. July 2: Learning to Look
Discover the elements of art on a museum tour and create a colorful and textured collage.

July 9: Summer Stories
Explore stories in the work of Horace Pippin and other artists and start a sketchbook of summer experiences.

July 16: Treasure Tales
Find hidden details in paintings of pirates and other adventurers and decorate a special container for personal treasures.

July 23: Animals in Art
Search the museum for animals of every shape and size and make imaginative creatures from Crayola Model Magic.

July 30: Riverscapes
Observe the changing colors and reflections of the Brandywine River as seen in paintings.

Brandywine River Museum of Art admission is $15 for adults, $10 for ages 65 and older, $6 for students and children ages 6 and older; free for children 5 and younger and members.
